The singer has been accused of breaking the rules to save Try Star – made up of rugby stars Thom Evans, Ben Foden and Levi Davis – but she has since insisted it was the right move.
She told the Jonathan Ross Show, “I love breaking the rules. The song [they sang, “Swing Low”] has a very deep meaning in America, it’s an old black spirituality so I thought it was a beautiful song.
“But then I did some research and understand that this is the rugby anthem. I don’t know the sport very well but I like the camaraderie and the fight and the spirit and the heart. ‘
